Jenny Philipson, LCSW, Psychotherapist

Today you are one step closer to feeling empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can’t change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life.

We will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back.

If you’re looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Treatment Approach

In a non-judgmental approach I assess your needs, develop a treatment plan, create goals, and evaluate progress. Initially I get to know you and help you identify what you see as strengths within yourself. When people are experiencing depression and anxiety and other life stressors it becomes difficult to see one’s own qualities.  We explore your hidden strengths and help you identify your needs.

Through consistent therapy sessions within a non-judgmental environment with a therapist who has empathy and compassion, you can start your journey towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Some of the issues we can address include:

  • Relationship issues
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Adoption
  • Codependency
  • Divorce
  • Grief
  • Infertility
  • Marital and Premarital communication
  • Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Depression and Anxiety
  • Self-Esteem
  • Stress
  • Women’s Issues

About Me

Jenny Philipson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, helps individuals, couples, and families cope with depression and anxiety, grief and loss, relationship problems, and life transitions. Particular areas of interest include older adults, adoption (for couples or individuals), and pre- and post-natal psychological care for women. A practicing psychotherapist for more than 15 years, Jenny is affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Evanston Hospital.

As a psychodynamic therapist, she works in an open, active, yet non-directive manner to help people understand how relationship difficulties and stressors relate to unconscious patterns that become established earlier in life. She describes her work as “accompanying people on a journey of self-discovery. I love to help people who are curious about themselves learn to understand the meaning of their symptoms, find their voice, and realize the power of choice in their lives.”

Absolute confidentiality is critical to Jenny’s approach. She creates a safe therapeutic environment for exploring feelings and developing new goals for change. She makes use of a variety of practice methods, including brief cognitive-behavioral interventions, psychodynamic long-term treatment, and family therapy for treating couples and family systems. In addition, her extensive background in community social service informs her treatment, as she is acutely aware of the effects and challenges of environmental stressors and chronic mental illness.

Jenny is committed to continually advancing her clinical skills. She is certified in psychoanalytic psychotherapy by the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, holds a Master’s Degree in social work from The University of Chicago, and completed her post-graduate fellowship at Chicago’s Cathedral Counseling Center.
